Viognier
Viognier is mostly known for the famous and highly praised white wines Condrieu and Château Grillet from northern Rhône. It used to be grown on a very limited acreage, but in recent decades it has enjoyed a surge in popularity and is now grown not only in other parts of southern France but also in e g California, Argentina and Chile.The wines from Viognier are typically aromatic and rather perfumed, with notes of peach, apricot and violet. They are relatively low in acidity and are normally drunk young.
