Viognier
Viognier is mostly known for the famous and highly praised white wines Condrieu and Château Grillet from northern Rhône. It used to be grown on a very limited acreage, but in recent decades it has enjoyed a surge in popularity and is now grown not only in other parts of southern France but also in e g California, Argentina and Chile.
The wines from Viognier are typically aromatic and rather perfumed, with notes of peach, apricot and violet. They are relatively low in acidity and are normally drunk young.
