Perle is an excellent aroma hop! It's described by some as having an aroma similar to Hallertau Muttlefrüh but with it's higher content of alpha acids it also works well for bittering. Some mint, pine and spice in it's aroma.
Commonly used in wheat, lager kölsch, ale and porter.
Perle was created sometime during the '60s or '70s and is a cross between Northern Brewer and an unknown German strain. Released to the public in 1978 by the Hop Research Institute in Hüll, Germany.
Aroma: Some mint, pine and slightly spicy.
Origin: Tyskland
Typical values:
Alpha acid (correct alpha value is printed on the package): 7 - 9 %
Cohumulone: 29 - 35 %
Total oils: 0,6 - 1,3 ml / 100 g
Storage stability (alpha acids): Good, 61% alpha acids remaining after 6 months at 20ºC.
