Raw licorice powder gives the authentic licorice flavor. Good for making your own candy or for flavoring beer, ice cream, desserts and foods. Use as flavoring in dark beer styles such as stout, porter and dark Belgian ales, as a discreet flavor note or as dominant flavor.
When brewing beer, the powder can be added at the end of the wort boil or dissolved in boiling water and added to the fermenter. Trials is the way to go to find the right dosage for the beer style, to avoid making the licorice flavor too dominant. Licorice also contributes a slight sweetness to the taste and can be combined with other flavors (such as raspberry, violet or lemon) to give a more candy-like character to a beer.
Suggested dosage: from 0.5 gram per liter of wort, and up.
Raw licorice powder is a powdered extract from licorice root. Do not confuse raw licorice with Ammonium Chloride, which is used in salty licorice. Raw licorice is closer in taste to sweet licorice.
