Zinfandel has been thought of as a California grape - however it has now been found to be identical to Primitivo which is grown in Italy. Already in the early 1900's, this was considered the most important grape in California. Zinfandel is now grown also in e.g. South Africa, Australia and Chile.

Lodi is an AVA (American Viticultural Area), a wine district in California, east of San Francisco. Lodi is especially known for its Cabernets and Zinfandels.
