Description

Article no.: 597399

Recipe kit with crushed malt for brewing 20 liters of beer.

The emperor of beer and real heavyweight that will bring out the sweettooth in you. A lot of things going on here, with massive flavour, warmth, roast notes and aromas of coffee and chocolate. The hops bring a noticeable bitterness, needed for balance in this dark and sweet beer style. Originally intended for export to the Tsar in Russia, the Imperial Stout has mutated into different directions. We like to age it on bourbon oak shavings, but you can also add other flavourings or brew it plain.

Includes spraymalt and Crystal Brew Pastry brewing sugar for a shortcut to the very high starting gravity, which otherwise might prove a bit challenging to reach. If you feel like experimenting, you could consider adding lactose and to age the beer on oak shavings from bourbon barrels.

Suitable for intermediate and advanced brewers. This kit contains quite a lot of malt which puts some extra strain on both the brewer and the equipment.

Recipe and instructions (for download)

Contains:
  • Malt and spraymalt (8.75 kg): Pale ale malt and Roasted barley from Weyermann®, Crystal 150, Low Colour Chocolate Malt and Torrefied Wheat from Crisp, dried spraymalt from Muntons, Crystal Brew - Pastry brewing sugar
  • Hops: Columbus/Tomahawk
  • Yeast: both Fermentis Safale US-05 and Lallemand Nottingham Ale
Original Gravity: 1.110 - 1.120
Alcohol: ca 11 % vol
Colour: 116 °EBC
Bitterness: 90 IBU

For improved beer clarity, we recommend using finings in the wort boil. Protafloc attracts haze-forming particles and settles out during chilling, making it easier to separate it from the clear wort. This results in a beer with less haze.

If your brewing water is soft or semi soft we reccomend you ad some Calcium carbonate in the mash when you brew a darker beer like stout. This will make your beer more rich and have less acidic tastes.
