The Thief is a sampler with a built in hydrometer test jar.
It makes it very easy to take hydrometer readings, even from demijohns and carboys.
Simply submerge the Thief and it will fill from the bottom. When lifted up, the valve will close and you can drop in the hydrometer.
Size of testing cylinder:
Inside 45 cm high and 21 mm diameter.
Outside 51 cm high, diameter 28 mm at the widest part.
Often called a Wine Thief, but it is equally suited for beer.
NOTE: Do not use alcohol or heat disinfect it! We recommend using Star San or Saniclean for disinfection.
If for some reason you can't get a deep enough sample in The Thief to float your hydrometer, try this: shake The Thief up and down a few centimeters with the bottom tip well submerged in your container of wine/beer. The liquid level in the Thief will magically rise.
